What is Recovery Mode?

Android OS gives the flexibility to modify the system to the core and change every functionality of the OS if needed. Rooting is the first thing you’ll do on your device to enjoy privileged access on your device. However, the main fun lies with the installation of custom recovery and thereby installing tons of custom ROMs and mods. OnePlus One has a huge developer network and you could find many custom ROMs and mods to install but first, you have to boot your device into recovery mode.

The Recovery Menu

There is a pretty long(not that long) list of things that can be done in a recovery menu. Different smartphones can have different recovery menu, some of the common things are listed below:

Reboot system: as the term itself suggests it will restart the device normally.

Apply from external storage: this will actually allow users to update the system from the OTA file which is present in the external storage.

Apply update from ADB: the ADB or Android Debug Bridge helps the user to connect the Android device to a computer. This feature is designed for Android developers, and therefore requires the Android SDK (Software Development Kit) to be installed on the computer.

Wipe data and cache partition: this will wipe the data and the cache partition, and reset the device to its initial factory settings. And the wipe cache partition will wipe all data from the cache partition. The cache partition is a partition in the drive, which is used as a memory, to temporarily store data.
